The Blood Trilogy was the first to introduced splatter to the world. Blood Feast, produced in 1963, is considered the world’s first splatter film and is the first in Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Trilogy that consists of Two Thousand Maniacs produced in 1964 and Color Me Blood Red in 1965. Image Entertainment, as part of their Something Weird line of Blu-ray films now has all three films available on one Blu-ray disc for the enjoyment of Herschell Gordon Lewis fans.

To give you the run down on each film, Blood Feast is about a cultist who is hired to cater a Birthday party. The food will be made from one thing: the body parts of hot young women. Two Thousand Maniacs is about a band of citizens from a small Southern town who like to reenact the Civil War and force travelers from the North to participate in their killer games. Color Me Blood Red is about an artist who finds that he enjoys painting with human blood.

The Blu-ray disc has many special features on it that include audio commentaries with director Herschell Gordon Lewis and producer David F. Friedman. A gallery of both Friedman’s and Lewis’ Exploitation Art, a vintage short: Carving Magic!, A rare gore short from 1964 called Follow That Skirt! The disc also contains Original Theatrical Trailers, Rare Outtakes and the trailer for the documentary Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore.

Overall, This is a great Blu-ray for fans of the all three of the films contained within The Blood Trilogy. It’s the perfect disc for fans of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ masterpieces of gore.
