Call me a dumb ass, but this film is way to medically smart for me. Basically in a nutshell this film has a script full of medically terminology that half the time I have no clue what the exact deal is. I understand there is this Frankenstein kind of plot going on here. But dam! For a film that only runs 75 minutes, man was it slow.

Magdalena's Brain is about a husband (Arthur)  and wife (Magdalena) medical team whom are researching a new means to artificial intelligence. When something goes wrong both of them lose their medical license.  Now both of the mare living in a warehouse and continuing there research, however  Arthur is left in a wheel chair unable to talk or more at all. Though technological development though they are able to invent devices in which Arthur can hear and communicate though. Now with nothing left to lose the duo along with Magdalena's brother are going to attempt to transfers Arthur's brain matter (I guess) into a guy named Andrew whom is developing a cancerous tumor in his brain. However things begin to take a turn for the worse as Magdalena and Arthur become obsessed with completing their experiment.

As mentioned above the film begins very slow and is for the most part very boring. There's some much medical mumbo-jumbo thrown around, I was more focused on my ceiling fan than I was the television set.  I honestly felt like a little kid sitting in a doctors office with no toys to play with or magazines to browse though. I can see and have some clues of what was going on, but I didn't care.  However towards the end of the film is when the horror begins to happen, and the plot picks up. That's where Magdalena starts to go a little nuts, and tries to get the experiment to work. That is until the conclusion of the film when we find out what is really happening.

The acting was good in the film, as was the directing. However as I mentioned above the film for the most part is slow. The effects although limited are not all that bad. The film relies more on a musical score and quick cuts and unnatural lighting to scare us with, however I found the scares to be minimal.

Overall, not a bad little flick for a first time director. It's not a film that interested me in the least, but it was shot well and the over all look of the film is good.  However Magdalena's Brain is not a film for everyone, and would probably please the art house film junkie more than it would the typical horror fan.
