"Memento Mori", hell I don't know where to begin. This film was so weird yet it was shot, written and directed so well. At first I was kind of at a lose, some of these Asian films just get to me after a while cause I have to read subtitles while trying to watch film too, so it's double the work for, however I noticed that my Koran, Japanese and Cantonese are getting better with every Asian horror film I watch. Well at least I know how to say hello, goodbye and count to ten in all three languages. Anyway "Memento Mori" is a strange film about a girl named Min-Ah who discovers a shard diary. She gets so into reading this diary because it is about a secret romance between two female students in an all girls school. So basically what happens is one of the girls who wrote the diary kills herself. Min-Ah begins to read and study the diary more closely and then starts to feel a strange presence following her throughout the school. So then your basic ghost story plot kicks in from there. However it seems that the title of the diary' "Memento Mori" (which in English means "Remember the Dead") has something to do with the content of the diary coming to life. The film is kind of weird and has an experimental feel to it. There is some lesbian love going on within the mainly all female cast, but it's done in good taste. I mainly enjoyed the film not so much for the story but for the directing and cinematography. The acting was great also. The production value was good, but the film did seem like it was a low budget film done right. There were not many huge scenes that involved over the top special effects, but what was involved worked well for the film. Overall "Memento Mori" is a must see film for all fans of Asian cinema. It will earn the respect of all Asian horror fans as well as people who enjoy artsy or experimental films. -Horror Bob
